Frans Barends Award
The UNESCO Land Subsidence International Initiative (LaSII) and the organization of TISOLS have decided to launch a new award for young scientists: the Frans Barends award.
Prof. Barends (1946-2017) was an outstanding geo-scientist who has been one of the driving forces of the UNESCO Working Group on Land Subsidence, now LaSII. During his whole career was an enthusiastic supporter and helper for young scientists in the field of geo mechanics.
To honor him, a jury will assign this award to a young researcher (under 35 years) who has given the best contribution to the Symposium. Both papers and posters can be subject for nomination.
The jury will consist of:
- Dora Carréon-Freyre (Chair of LaSII)
- Pietro Teatini (Vice Chair of LaSII)
- Peter Fokker (Chair of the Scientific Committee of TISOLS)
The award consists of a Diploma and an amount of money.
To be eligible for this award, candidates can nominate themselves or can be nominated by others. To be nominated, a form has to be filled, containing the name of the nominated, the birthday, the title of poster(s) and/or paper(s), the nominees contribution to the research and a short motivation.
The deadline for nominations is Friday 1 November 2019, 00.00 CET.
